iOS users have had limited access to NFC for the longest time, despite the hardware being in iPhones since the iPhone 6. The rollout of NFC hotel room unlock cards has become quite common. iOS 11 gave developers nearly-useless NFC functionality. While its adoption was very different during the iPhone 6's era, it's long overdue that we get true NFC capabilities. According to The Information, iOS 12 will finally deliver on this. If this claim is true, we should be hearing about it very soon. As in, a little over a week soon. With the Apple ecosystem's continuity, we could see very interesting use cases for NFC, potentially even in our own homes.
