In iOS 10, you can choose to send or restrict read receipts from specific conversations. Read receipts tell your recipient the time you read their iMessage. To toggle this option, tap the Details button in any iMessage conversation and use the switch "Send Read Receipts." This is very similar to how you can toggle "Do Not Disturb" for conversations. I hope this helps any beta testers or developers! iOS 10 will come out in September.
