If You're New 2 Technology...

NOTE: This page is being expanded and updated as time goes by.

  • iMac (desktop)
  • Mac Mini (desktop)
  • Mac Pro (desktop / tower)
  • Macbook Air (laptop)
  • Macbook Pro (laptop)
  • Macbook Pro with Retina Display (laptop)
Tablets (referred to as "iPads"):
  • iPad 2
  • iPad Mini
  • iPad with Retina Display (sometimes referred to as "iPad 4")
Smartphones (referred to as "iPhones"):
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 5
MP3 Players (referred to as "iPods"):
  • iPod Shuffle
  • iPod Nano
  • iPod Touch
  • iPod Classic

iOS

On this blog, you will hear me refer to the term "iOS" in most posts. iOS is basically referring to iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touches (only iPod Touches).

Anatomy of an iOS Device

I will refer to buttons of the iOS device by their names. As shown by the picture above, there is the "Home" button. The "On/Off Sleep/Wake" button will be referred on this blog as the "Lock Button". On the inside, there is a processing chip. This is where all of the magic happens. There is an evolution of these chips, starting with the "A4" chip in the original iPad and iPhone 4 (not iPhone 4S). The "A5" chip was in the iPad 2, iPad Mini, and iPhone 4S. The "A5X" chip came in "The New iPad" (in which is no longer sold and is survived by the slightly improved iPad with Retina Display). The "A6" chip is in the iPhone 5. Finally, the "A6X" chip is in the iPad with Retina Display.
